Drew in the Philippines!
Friday night Drew and Alex flew to Manila, Philippines for a weekend trip! They arrived around 4:30am. That's what you have to do to get the cheap flights. For some reason the only picture Drew sent was a blurry one of people standing in line at customs...interesting. I think this is what happens when you're delirious from early morning travel. When I got an email titled "Manila Customs" I was expecting something more cultural. Anyway, Drew took more pictures, but per Alex's advice, bringing their laptops was not worth the risk. So the pictures will have to wait until they return to Singapore on Monday.

MFA
Drew did more work today. He wrote some code, and he finished this week's assignments for his pharmacology class. You work hard, you play hard, so at the end of the day, he was off to an exciting weekend trip with Alex that will no doubt bring lots of pictures and stories.
Meanwhile L and I went to the MFA to see the new Art of the Americas wing. Drew and I went in January, but it was L's first time. It was nice to see the exhibit again. The art was just as interesting the second time around; however, what made the trip even more worthwhile was the new Chihuly: Though the Looking Glass exhibit, which was amazing.
It may look like a heaping mess of food, but it was soooo good. I don't know what the red sauce bordering the hummus is, but it was oh so spicy and delicious.

First was a yummy lunch. Special Sampler?? Yes, please!

As we walked to the MFA, there were flowering trees everywhere. Dogwoods, magnolias, cherry, and apple trees! I had to keep stopping to take pictures.
The Chihuly exhibit was breathtaking. The photos obviously don't do the pieces any justice.
Crazy.
I want this hanging from the ceiling of my apt. I think it'd fit right in, though protective eye wear may be necessary.
As you can tell I'm thoroughly enjoying my new camera from Drew and his parents!! Be happy that I did not post the zillion other random photos I took throughout the day.

Stranded at Fusionopolis
Alex had a meeting at Fusionopolis where he now has a second office in addition to one at Biopolis. Drew tagged along though he did not attend the meeting and did not have access to the new office. Little did he know that the meeting would last three hours... The good thing is, if you had to be stranded in a building, Fusionopolis is not a bad place to be. There are shops and restaurants, and the building itself with all its natural sunlight is a beautiful place to relax and do some reading.
Game store that set Drew's heart aflutter with excitement. Paradigm Inifinitum... a somewhat grandiose name.
Munchkin is everywhere. How many variations of the game can they make... who knows.
Food at Fusionopolis. Starbucks' chicken sandwich looks kind of gray and lacking, but that hot chocolate looks yummy. Can't go wrong with Haagen Dazs ice cream.
Sashimi for lunch... no comment.
Pho Ga for dinner.
For the rest of the day back at Biopolis, Drew worked on more coding and fixing bugs. The days left in Singapore are winding down. With less than 10 days to go and another weekend trip coming up, it's a race against the clock to get their project done.

Build Hosts and Granny Squares
Drew says, hi! Looking much different being back behind his laptop. It's good to see that you've managed to remain nice and pale, Drew. Your skin thanks you.
It was rainy in Singapore. Drew got the build hosts working. Here's a screenshot. Colors and undecipherable text is all I see, but according to Drew it shows the build host running code. So yay, progress.
A couple months ago with more time on my hands, I started making granny squares hoping to make a blanket.
My biggest fear is that it will never be completed, in which case let me know if you need a couple dozen coasters that probably won't match your decor.

There's been a sad paucity of food pictures in this blog, but L saved the day by suprising me with a fruit tart! Some blueberries and blackberries were already ingested before the pic was taken. I could not help myself.

Back in Singapore
Drew safely reached Singapore Tuesday morning and went to work. Four days without sushi was clearly too long, so guess where they went for dinner. This will be Drew at the end of his trip.
Drew, if you start experiencing pain, paresthesias, or erythema of your palms and soles; tremors, palpitations, or memory loss, consider getting your mercury levels checked...
I had my own check up yesterday, and it turns out I'm borderline hypotensive and bradycardic. Clearly my brain doesn't get proper perfusion, which may explain a lot including my new found apathy for learning anything anymore. Ok, maybe not. (18 more days until graduation... but who's counting.)
Drew had no new photos for today so here are some from previous days.
Looks like a great place to get away from everything.

Cars in Thailand have no heater, just settings for cold, colder, and coldest.
Drew enjoys being mauled by a tiger.
Looks like a great place to get away from everything.
Ah, bliss.

I'm on an elephant...!
Today is Drew's last full day in Thailand. It also puts him past the halfway point of his trip. He flies back to Singapore Tuesday morning while Nui stays behind to spend time with her family. So, what else is there left to do in Ao Nang but ride an elephant!
Not sure what you're smooshing on the trunk there, but the elephant seems to like it.
Drew and Nui decided to forgo walking up 1,237 steps in 90 degree weather. A picture of the sign will have to suffice.
Emerald Pond. Bacteria and algae give the pond its distinctive color that changes with the temperature.
As if it weren't hot enough, Drew hops in a hot spring. The others seem to know to stay away.
Drew owes a lot to Nui for a great time in Thailand! Thanks, Nui!
I leave you with a cute picture of an elephant from the AP site. Om nom nom nom.

Froyo Addict
One of the things I ask Drew to help me with is monitoring my intake of ice cream to prevent me from inhaling sickening tubfuls of the creamy crack. However, often I go into a sugary rage whenever he tries to enforce moderation and threatens to part me from frozen deliciousness as I try to stuff more down my gullet. His persistent care for me and my health deserves awards, because he continues to help me deal with my addiction despite my countless attempts to jab his hand away with pink plastic spoons as I defend my cup of bliss from being taken away.
However! As Drew is not here, one of the very few upsides of his absence is unrestricted froyo. Though any day is a good day for froyo, it was especially indicated because after running 10 miles, froyo has been shown to help heal sore muscles and joints. This data is based on anecdotal evidence of one froyo addict and newbie runner. Benefits have also been shown to increase as you add more toppings...

This mundane entry was due to the fact that Drew did not do much of anything Sunday. Bars and shops were visited, but not much else. There's much more excitement planned for tomorrow.
